BCG Banking and Technology Expert Tom Reichert Named One of the Year’s Top Consultants

Reichert, Chairman of North America for The Boston Consulting Group, Is Honored by Consulting Magazine for Excellence in Leadership

NEW YORK, June 20, 2014—Thomas Reichert, chairman of North America for The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and an expert in banking and information technology, has been named one of the top 25 most influential consultants of 2014 by Consulting magazine, the industry’s leading trade publication. Reichert, who is based in New York and oversees the firm’s operations in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, won in the Excellence in Leadership category.

“We were incredibly impressed with the more than 400 nominations we received this year,” said Joe Kornik, Consulting’s editor and publisher, in announcing the winners. “Each year, the Top 25 nominations seem to get stronger, and this year was no different.”

Reichert, 48, “highlights a distinguished class,” Kornik said.

Reichert and his fellow awardees were honored at a gala dinner yesterday at the historic JW Marriott Essex House in midtown Manhattan.

In its profile in the May 2014 issue, Consulting wrote: “It’s been a busy few years for Tom Reichert…Since taking the helm [as regional chair in January 2013], Reichert has launched several new initiatives aimed at accelerating growth, broadening expertise, and enhancing client service….BCG is advancing strongly and gaining share, with double-digit revenue growth in North America.”

Reichert told the magazine: “I’m especially proud that we’ve been able to strengthen our client relationships, serve more clients, and deepen our expertise across many industry and functional topics. We’ve made great progress on our technology-oriented capabilities, including the launch of BCG Digital Ventures, the broadening and rebranding of our IT practice into ‘Technology Advantage,’ and leading-edge thinking around big data issues.”

Reichert is no stranger to the technology space. Prior to 2013, he served for three years as global leader of BCG’s IT practice. Before that, he led the IT practice in the Americas and the Operations and IT banking segment worldwide from 2007 to 2010.

In addition to North America, he has worked extensively in Europe, Australia, and Asia, helping clients transform their businesses and their IT functions. His work at BCG spans a wide range of topics, including business strategies, large-scale change, and risk management. He has led the integration of IT organizations in several financial-services mergers, spearheaded a major outsourcing program for a large hedge fund, and managed several IT cost-reduction programs in retail and corporate banks.

“It’s a privilege to help top executives at large organizations address their toughest problems,” he says. “What I enjoy most is working collaboratively with them to surface new insights into their businesses, create highly customized strategies, help manage the change, and then deliver the value from the strategies.”

Before joining BCG, Reichert worked as acting CIO at BT Financial Australia/New Zealand and was a relationship manager for small to medium-sized companies for Dresdner Bank AG in Germany. He earned an MBA from Indiana University and a PhD in economics from the University of Bayreuth, Germany. A citizen of Germany and Australia, he is married with three children.
